• Set the Clean By to work on your text in whole paragraphs or break down the paragraphs into words before cleaning them, where applicable.
• Some Preference options are for Pro use only. See that section for more details.
Case
----
Change the case of this sentence. It can accept multiple sentences on one line.
And multiple paragraphs. it even fixes your capitalisation! Use this 'sentence' to "test" excess spaces (at the start and end of paragraphs plus double spaces between words) and curly quotes.
iNVERT cASE — if it was upper, it is now lower. If it was lower, it is now upper!
lowercase — all text becomes lower case. This even works for foreign words with accents like acutes, graves and umlauts!
“Quotes” — Default to Curly Quotes. Otherwise, in the Preferences, change the Country Quotes to adapt the single and double quotation marks to that foreign language.
RaNdOM cAsE — Who know whether each character will be uppercase or lowercase? Each Clean is different!
Title Case — The first letter of every word will be upper case and the rest of the word in lower case.
Title Case (except Conjunctions) — Conjugations are the small joining words that we usually don't notice in sentences, so you might not want to capitalise them.
Sentence case — The first letter of every sentence will be upper case and the rest of the sentence in lower case.
UPPERCASE — all text becomes upper case. This even works for foreign words.
Sort
----
Change the order of the paragraphs according to the sort method. If you want to sort the words you will need to change the Clean By option in the Preferences to Word.
Ascending — sorts paragraphs by increasing alphabetical order.
Case-Sensitive — sorts paragraphs by increasing ASCII order. All uppercase letters come before any lowercase letters, and symbols are in decimal order.
Descending — sorts paragraphs by decreasing alphabetical order.
Numerical Value — sorts paragraphs by their values if converted to a number. This solves the problem of sorting lists where alphabetically 10 comes before 2, yet numerically it comes after.
Random Sort — sorts paragraphs by a random order. Every Clean will change them into a new random order.
Reverse — sorts paragraphs into the reverse order to what they are currently.
The words below are separated by tabs so you can test the sorting when they are in Table View.
Sort these words by tables
these words by tables Sort
Case sensitive puts capitals together
Duplicates
---------
You can now search a list of thousands of items (e.g. email addresses, phone numbers, names, etc) to find out if any are duplicates and remove them. If you want to remove duplicates by words instead of by paragraphs, you will need to change the Clean By option in the Preferences to Word.
Remove Duplicates — keep one copy of all paragraphs (only one of every item remains).
Show Only Duplicates — removes all paragraphs that have only one occurrence, leaving only the duplicates.
Show Only Unique — removes all paragraphs that have more than one occurrence, leaving only the unique paragraphs.
Here is a list of words of which some are duplicates and some are unique:
car
car
bus
car
plane
bicycle
car
train
plane
aeroplane
Use these values to show the order when sorted numerically
$1 - symbols before a number will render the value as zero
1
2
-10 - the plus and minus symbols before a number are used in determining the value
+10
ABC2
£3.45
4D5E6F7 - the value will stop when it finds a non-number
5$
.7 - decimal points are used in determining value
8.0001
9/10 - mathematical expressions are not resolved
9-10
9+10
9*10
9 10 - spaces are treated as a new number
ten - words as text are treated as text
inf - is treated as infinity i.e. the maximum number
Remove
------
Removes the specified text or converts it into a different value.
All ASCII — removes all text with ASCII decimal value between 0-127. All higher ASCII values are retained.
Em/En-dash to Hyphen — converts all longer hyphen En-dash '–' (Option-hyphen) and longer Em-dash '—' (Shift-Option-hyphen) characters to the short hyphen '-'.
Excess Returns — turns two or more Returns into one Return.
Excess Spaces — removes any number of spaces from the start and end of a paragraph. Plus it turns two or more Spaces within a paragraph into one Space.
HTML Number To Text — converts from HTML Number code format to the ASCII symbol e.g. $ becomes $
HTML Name To Text — converts from the HTML text code format to the ASCII symbol e.g. © becomes ©
Hyphen to Em-dash — converts all short hyphens '-' to the longer hyphen Em-dash '—' (Shift-Option-hyphen).
Hyphen to En-dash — converts all short hyphens '-' to the long hyphen En-dash '–' (Option-hyphen).
LineFeeds — removes all Line Feeds (ASCII 10)
LineFeeds to Returns — converts all Line Feeds (ASCII 10) to Returns (ASCII 13)
Non ASCII — removes all text with ASCII decimal value above 127. All lower ASCII values are retained.
Non Letters — removes all characters that are not A-Z.
Non Numbers — removes all characters that are not 0-9, +, - or period.
Periods — removes all periods i.e. full stops!
Punctuation — removes all normal non-text symbols used in sentences i.e. ±!@#$%^&*()_+§={}[]:|;'\<>?,./"
Returns — remove all Returns (ASCII 13)
Returns to LineFeeds — converts all Returns (ASCII 13) to Line Feeds (ASCII 10)
Spaces — remove all Spaces (ASCII 20)
Tabs — remove all Returns (ASCII 9)
Text From HTML (All) — extracts all double-quoted text from an HTML script whether the text would be visible to the browser or not. This is a dumb script that works with any text, but is designed for extracting from HTML code.
Text From HTML (Visible) — An intelligent script that searches for, and removes, all standard HTML codes leaving behind any normally visible text.
Text To HTML Number — converts from the ASCII symbol to the HTML Number code format e.g. $ becomes $
Text To HTML Name — converts from the ASCII symbol to the HTML text code format e.g. © becomes ©
Text To URL Encoding — converts from ASCII symbols to the URL codes (the values in URL links to other pages or download files) e.g. the space character becomes %20
URL Encoding to Text — converts from URL codes to ASCII symbols e.g. %3A becomes :
There are lots of excess spaces in this sentence. They can be removed easily.
This line has some tab characters, 1, 2, 3 numbers, -, –, — dashes, '.' periods and @#$%^&*+={}\|;':"<>,./? (punctuation) character{s}!
This line`¡ has ™ some (£¢∞§¶•ªº––≠) non-ASCII characters…
This line has some HTML Numbers.
This line has some HTML Names: ¢ £ ¥ ¦ §.

Personal
-------
The Personal cleaning is designed to work on its own or in conjunction with a spreadsheet. Select a column of spreadsheet data, paste it into CleanHaven, clean it, then paste it back.
Combine Columns — take any number of tab-delimited columns and remove the tabs, but intelligently insert commas only if there is data to the left of each tab. Great for combining address data.
Combine Paragraphs — remove the Returns from the end of paragraphs and join them up with the next sentence where the paragraph has been truncated such as with some email programs.
Email to Web — takes a standard email address and returns both the email address and an equivalent web address that is based on the domain of the email address.
Name to Salutation/First/Last — Converts a list of Names separated by spaces into "Salutation<tab>First Name<tab>Last Name" format. If the Salutation is missing, it looks up a table to try to determine it. If the Last Name contains multiple names, it hyphenates them.
Phone Number — removes all excess characters from the phone number and inserts a space 6 spaces from the right (by default). If there is an extension, it is left alone.
Postcode to Region — given a USA or UK postcode, it returns the Postcode, City, County, Country, Region and SubRegion.
Postcode to Latitute/Longitude — given a USA or UK postcode, it returns the Postcode, Latitude and Longitude.
Postcode to All Data — given a USA or UK postcode, it returns the Postcode, City, State, Country, Region, SubRegion, Latitude, Longitude, StateAbbrev, StateFips, CountyFips, CountyName, TotalCountyPopulation, TotalCountyHousingUnits, Timezone, DaylightSavings, Returns, AvgAgi, Refunds, AvgRefund, Single, MarriedJoint, HeadofHousehold, LessThan30, ThirtyToFortyFour, FortyFiveToSixty, MoreThanSixty and TvDesignatedMarketAreas.
Salutation — Converts a list of First Names "Salutation<tab>First Name" format. Great when you have a list of names missing their Salutations.
Combine these tab-delimited columns into one comma-separated column:
one two three complete columns
six Missing first two columns
five six missing the first column
four six missing the middle column
below is missing the final column:
seven eight
below has no values at all in any column:
nothing to the left
Combine Paragraphs:
This is a column of
line-wrapped text that has been
truncated like in some old email systems. Yet it is
supposed to be one long paragraph,
not a series of lines. You can join it back up.
Convert these email addresses into their Web URLs:
Convert these names that are in one column into three tab-delimited columns with the salutation guessed if it is missing.
steve sarkoezy
mr paul carter
Dr john Smith
mary Juniper
Prof John Hack in a bush
bill Sykes
Miss Montgommery
Mrs Liz Taylor
Missy Higgins
These first names can be given a Salutation if you just want to look up a list of names:
Jane
Jon
Malcolm
Cathryn
Convert these phone numbers to a standard format with a space six from the righthand side.
07921886969
(03214)969475
+621 9796 1266
97985623 x212
Convert these UK and USA postcodes into a tab-delimited list or columns to help fill in address blanks. It returns the Postcode, City, County, Region and Country.
