The recently updated and facelifted Ford Galaxy has maintained its stranglehold on the MPV of the Year class in the 2010 Professional Driver Car of the Year Awards, retaining the prize it won last year. The Galaxy finished ahead of the Mercedes Viano and a strong newcomer, the Peugeot 5008, in a hard-fought category.
Ford Galaxy’s popularity in the Private Hire sector hardly needs repeating. Market-leader Addison Lee has alone bought 1,200 this year and almost half of all UK Galaxy sales are accounted for by the Private Hire and Chauffeuring market.
Mark Bursa, editor of Professional Driver Magazine, said: “The Ford Galaxy seems unassailable in the MPV of the Year category of the Professional Driver Car of the Year Awards. A raft of upgrades and improvements this year have made Galaxy more up-market and it drives superbly thanks to an excellent DSG automatic transmission. Galaxy’s all-round competence keeps it ahead of the field.”

A total of 33 cars were entered for the Professional Driver Magazine Car of the Year Awards, which were judged by more than thirty judges from the chauffeuring and private hire sector and the motoring media.
Other category winners were: Jaguar XJL (Chauffeur car of the Year), BMW 530d Grand Turismo (Private Hire Vehicle of the Year) and Skoda Superb Estate (Private Hire Vehicle of the Year). The Jaguar XJL won the overall Professional Driver Car of the Year Award for 2010.
