Bristol Chauffeur firm undercuts London train fares
A Bristol chauffeur company is offering local businesses return trips to London at prices that undercut ever-increasing rail fares.
Mike Worley, who runs Silverline Cars, said he was getting business from large companies because firms can get a door-to-door service for much less than it costs by train if there is more than one person making the trip.
Two first class return tickets to London at peak time cost £440, which makes a chauffeur driven car at £275 for up to four people much better value and can save businesses thousands of pounds. And as First Great Western prepares to introduce a rise in fares in the New Year, he expects to pick up more business.
Worley said: “More and more of our business is now taking people between London and Bristol for meetings,” he said. “Over the past few years we all know there have been a lot of businesses relocating to Bristol, but they still need staff to go back to London for meetings when it’s necessary.
“Everybody has been keeping an eye on costs during the past couple of years because of the recession and people have realised that being chauffeur driven to London is cheaper than taking the train, especially if there is a group of people.
“Our charge for a vehicle to London for the day starts at £275 plus vat, parking and Congestion Charge. This is for an executive saloon which will carry three in comfort but has a capacity to carry four. The charges are per vehicle regardless of the number of passengers that are carried.”
