Caddy facelift has private hire appeal
Volkswagen is launching yet another people-mover option, with the debut of the new Caddy Maxi MPV. It’s the fourth new people-mover from VW this year, joining Touran, Sharan and Caravelle.
Based on the long-wheelbase Caddy Van, it replaces the Caddy Life in the range. The change of name reflects a new marketing thrust – it’s aimed as a practical people-mover rather than a ‘lifestyle’ vehicle – and that should increase its appeal in the private hire and taxi conversion markets, as it offers seven seats plus reasonable luggage space.
It’s been restyled to take the VW family ‘face’, while a choice of new 1.6-litre or 2.0-litre TDI engines give improved fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions. There are three power outputs, ranging from 102PS to 140PS, and CO2 emissions are as low as 136g/km for the 102PS BlueMotion version, rising to 166g/km for the 140PS DSG automatic.
Prices start at £19,045 including VAT for the most basic 1.6TDI 102PS model, rising to £22,140 for the 2.0TDI 140PS DSG and £22,690 for the 2.0TDI 110PS 4Motion 4x4 model.
