First look at facelifted E-class
The first images of next year’s facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-class have been leaked on to the Internet ahead of its official launch.
The changes are cosmetic – there are few changes to the interior or powertrains – but the body receives a mild reskin, losing the ‘Ponton’ rear wheel arches and the quadruple front headlamps in favour of merged single headlamp units. The overall effect is of a less fussy design, with a more sporty look.
The biggest changes are to the bonnet, front grille and bumper, where the rounder, more aggressive “SLS” grille replaces the more traditional front end of the current model. The three-pointed star moves to the centre of the grille on all models – the bonnet ornament star disappears, a victim of pedestrian crash testing as much as styling. Rear light clusters are also redesigned.
The facelifted E-calss will hit the showrooms around June 2013, according to Mercedes-Benz.
