Carey chooses Prius+ for Embarque private hire fleet
Embarque, chauffeur group Carey Worldwide’s executive minicab service, is adding 22 seven-seat Prius+ models to its fleet. The London-based service operates in London and service the major south-east airports
The Prius+ hybrids will join the fleet in January and February and will replace Embarque’s existing fleet of Ford Galaxy MPVs. Embarque is a growing business for Carey – it also operates in major US cities, where Toyota hybrid vehicles are also used. It continues the trend for chauffeur groups to offer a lower-priced, less luxurious service to private and business users. Rival Brunel has a similar subsidiary called Brucar, which operates a fleet of standard Toyota Prius.
Embarque’s strategiy is to minimise all aspects of its business impact on the environment. A carbon neutral company, the company invests in two projects around the world to cancel out the effect of CO2 from its fleet. At Embarque’s head office in West London, 30% of electricity is sourced from wind farms using Ecotricity, and a strict “reduce, reuse, recycle” policy operates for all office consumables in conjunction with Greener World Recycling.
Greg Mendoza, managing director of Embarque said: “Once we identified the Toyota Prius+ as the ideal private hire vehicle, we had no hesitation in deciding we would replace our entire fleet. We have also been extremely impressed with the support we have received from Toyota during this process.”
Prius+ uses Lithium-ion batteries located between the driver and passenger, so there is no compromise on boot space. All the vehicles are grey T4 grade models, supplied by Currie Motors Business Centre in Twickenham and financed through Toyota Financial Services. Standard features include cruise control, automatic air conditioning, head-up display and panoramic roof with automatic sun shade.
