All taxi and private hire drivers’ licences issued by Glasgow City Council that are set to expire by the end of May will automatically be extended by three months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Licensing committee meetings have been postponed by the council due to the public health crisis. A statement said: “Applications for renewal of a licence will not be accepted until June 2020 at the earliest. We will continue to review this position and may apply a further extension to licences if necessary.”
The licensing service desk is not currently offering appointments, with arrangements being put in place to enable essential paperwork to be submitted electronically. Customers are being asked to only submit essential applications via email. “Once we receive your application we will review it and contact you to arrange payment,” the statement continued.
“If you are applying for a taxi or private hire car drivers licence we will also contact you with specific instructions on providing your right to work documentation.”
