German car rental giant Sixt has joined Europcar in offering a ‘mobility’ service through a major UK private hire operator.

Sixt customers can now book a car with driver via Addison Lee Group, through the Sixt ‘One’ app. The app will initially offer bookings for Addison Lee’s mobility services in London before rolling out to other markets.

Europcar offers a similar service via Brunel, which it purchased in 2016. The Sixt – Addison Lee deal will give Sixt app users access to private hire and chauffeur services, initially starting in London, with other markets following later this year. Addison Lee has partnership agreements in 350 locations in 83 countries.

Sixt has united its mobility services under a single “Mobility as a Service” platform using its new ‘One’ app. This integrates the firm’s car rental (Sixt rent), car sharing (Sixt share) and the ride-hailing/taxi (Sixt ride) products and enables customers to book and pay for services online.

Addison Lee bookings will have fixed journey prices, even during peak times, easy billing and payment online. Robert McGinn, chief commercial officer at Addison Lee Group, said: “This partnership brings together two premium brands to provide pre-booked and on-demand transport services to corporate and consumer customers in London, and eventually in other major cities across the globe.”

Vinzenz Pflanz, senior vice president of group sales at Sixt SE, added: “Through our partnership with Addison Lee Group, we meet the needs of private and business travellers for transparent and flexible mobility. Travel managers in particular want a high level of transparency regarding their employees’ mobility. That is why we work actively with them and pursue our goal of facilitating worldwide transfers and rental car products over a booking channel that takes travel policies into account. Our cooperation with Addison Lee Group is another important building block in our strategy.”
