Tayport Taxis of North Fife, Scotland, has taken delivery of its first zero-emissions vehicle, an MG ZS EV. The car was supplied by local franchised MG dealer Mackie Motors of Brechin.

The MG ZS EV is one of the cheapest battery-electric cars on the UK market. The car will be used on journeys in and around the village and neighbouring Dundee area, where the local council has invested heavily in EV charging infrastructure.

David Bayne, owner of Tayport Taxis (pictured), said: “Adding an MG ZS EV to our taxi fleet is the first step in our transition to operating a zero-emissions fleet. The car is one of the best-priced electric vehicles on the road and its spacious, well-designed interior and comfortable ride is sure to make it a popular vehicle among our passengers.”

Kevin Mackie, managing director of Mackie Motors, said: “MG ZS EV sales have been driven by the growing consumer and business appetite for electric vehicles, and the real affordability of ZS EV when compared to other plug-in cars on the market is exceptional.”

The MG ZS EV offers a WLTP-approved range of 163 miles and rapid charge capability. The MG ZS EV was designed in London and engineered in Shanghai, China, where it is built by SAIC Motor, China’s biggest automaker.

MG now has more than 100 UK dealers and a target of 120 by the end of 2020. The MG range is backed by a 7-year/80,000 mile fully transferrable manufacturer’s warranty.
